Executive Directors
Stuart Alderson (CEO)
After studying Computer Science and Economics, Stuart began his IT career in Operations
with STC/ICL in the early 1980s. His roles crossed manufacturing, insurance and
legal before moving into finance with UBS in the mid 1990s. As Global Head of Infrastructure
Project Services, he played a major part in the UBS/SBC integration, Y2K and Euro
conversion programmes, and it was also at UBS where he met Stuart Tarrant. He joined
ABN Amro as a freelancer in 2003 where he managed the relationship between Operations
and the new outsourcer EDS, working closely with Barnaby Mote.
The following year at RBS, he fulfilled an interim management role as Chief of Staff
to the Global Head of Infrastructure, supporting organisational and technology change.
From there he joined a City-based consultancy in a senior account management / business
development role.
Barnaby Mote (CFO)
Graduating in 1996 with a Masters in Psychology from St Andrews University, Barnaby
started his career in the Euro conversion Programme Office with UBS. This was followed
by a spell in Equities financial control at Deutsche Bank before moving to ABN Amro
to build the Programme Office during the mobilisation of a global Operations restructuring
initiative in 2000. Whilst at ABN Amro, he met Stuart Alderson working within Operations
technology during the outsourcing to EDS.
In 2004 he moved to RBS to work with Stuart, initially taking on stewardship of
discretionary Infrastructure budget and later, Business Management across the whole
Infrastructure function. Immediately before setting up 4SL, he was consulting on
a business management process initiative for an investment banking client.
Stuart Tarrant (CTO)
Stuart studied engineering at UCL and complemented this with practical experience
from an engineering company and a period in R&D at Sony Broadcast. His first job
was with Case Communication on a pioneering mobile data communications system before
moving into financial services as a systems analyst at NatWest. He helped implement
an open systems architecture for the bank¹s branch network through innovative use
of emergent client server technology.
Stuart delivered a number of major IT projects in the investment banking domain
after joining SG Warburg in the early 1990s; the subsequent merger with Swiss Bank
Corporation, the outsourcing to Perot Systems and merger with UBS provided a number
of significant challenges and Stuart gained recognition as heavyweight programme
delivery and service manager. He moved into consulting in 2003 with a specialist
City-based infrastructure services firm and was instrumental in the development
of strategic service offerings which helped grow the business leading up to its
acquisition in 2007.
